Learn the fundamentals of drawing the human head.
Learn to Draw a portrait Stereometrically and how to begin a portrait painting with open grisaille. 

Stereometric Portrait drawing is a way of simplifying the human head by using simple 3D geometric shapes.

Learn the fundamentals of drawing the human head.
You will be working from a photo provided by the instructor

After you draw the portrait, you will learn the method of open grisaille on a 9×12 canvas panel.

Connie Ruel

All my life I have been passionate about drawing, painting, and enjoying the craft of the masters, but as a lifetime restaurateur, I was left little time to hone my skills. This all changed in 2017 when, after selling my fifth and last restaurant, releasing my memoir cookbook, and appearing on the Food Network’s “Chopped” and “Guy’s Grocery Games,” I was able to dedicate my time to art.

Though I have dabbled in drawing and painting still life and animals since childhood, my true interest lies in figurative and portrait. I work primarily in oil but also love experimenting with egg tempura.

I am captivated by artists of the late 19th century. Masters such as French painter-William Adolphe Bouguereau, Dutch artist-Lawrence Alma Tadema and Englishman- John William Waterhouse influence the style I strive for.

Though primarily self-taught, I have taken many workshops with renowned artists such as Robin D’Amore, Fred Wessel, Dennis Perrin, Robin Cole, Susan Diehl, Glen Villpu, Shana Levenson, Dominique Medici, John Darley and Adrian Gottlieb.

I am honored to be mentored by the fabulous Alexandra Manukyan.
